  • Pat Todd - Welcome to Ian Evans (not Smith). Also went to LA film forum for 6 hours of her son's films. Those in attendance were many of his film students. Lastly, summer home of Tuxedo Junction on Monday was great

Guest Speaker:  Lt Tim Bernier, Guilford Police Department to Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro 

Lt. Bernier has been on GPD for 17 years. For the past 11 years he has been working with state Special Olympics. He organizes the torch run for the entire state. The police are the largest grassroots campaign for the Special Olympics nationwide, with fundraisers including Tip a Cop events and penguin plunges. 


The Special Olympics consists of 6,500 athletes and 5500 able bodied partners. Unified Sports was started in CT. In CT there are 70+ local organizations, 26 sports and over 50 competitions. 


On June 7th, the torch run will come through Guilford. The torch run is Special Olympic athletes who run along with police officers and other volunteers. It will start in Guilford around 12:55 on the Madison/Guilford line and go along Rt 1 and will get to the Branford line around 2:05. If anyone is able to get out to cheer on the athletes, it is appreciated. 


Lt Bernier and 11 other individuals in CT have decided to raise money for Special Olympics and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in February 2020. Mt. Kilimanjaro is 19,000 ft. It will take 6 days to ascend with a 1 day break and a 2 day descent. The purpose is to use the climb as a platform to talThe individuals has each taken on the task of raising at least $10K for Speical Olympics. This is on top of other fundraisers and not to take money from things that are raised.
