Foundation: Feed the Children this past weekend, packed 20K meals in 2 hours. About 70 people there total to volunteer from several clubs.  Foundation brunch on Sunday at Woodwinds and a very nice time had by all.  

 

Special Message from Ben Haag, Madison Rotary President:

- On Wednesday, December 21 fellowship luncheon meeting with Madison, New Haven, Clinton and Guilford clubs.  Meeting will be at 12 pm at the Mercy Center in Madison.  Approximate cost will be $20

- Madison Rotary Half Marathon is this Sunday, November 13th.  Due to construction at Hammonasett the route this year will be partly in Guilford.  Madison Rotary is looking for 14 volunteers to man the zone in Guilford.  Bill Stableford has stepped up to be the Zone Manager.  Meet at Guilford Post Office at 8am, should be done around 10:30.

 

 

President's Announcements  

  • Election: Will be held November 30th (or Dec 7th if attendance is low).  Positions to be filled include President Elect (Guy Tomassi is running), Secretary, 3 board members who are coming off (2 yr terms), Co-sargent in arms.  If you would like to run please let Janie or Ed know.  In addition board has decided to add an Assistant Treasurer position.
  • Thank you notes from Haitian Health Foundation, Guilford Youth Mentoring, Shoreline Arts Alliance
  • Warm the Children - have an additional 2 families to cloth, please consider donations
  • Food Baskets will be November 18th.  Meet at 1pm at Bishops.  Then will take pick up trucks to schools to pick up food and bring to the VFW

 

Member Anouncements:

  • Interact put on their Pasta Night on November 8th.  They made over $4K and after expenses will be able to donate approximatley $2K to the Guilford Food Bank
  • Rose Sale - please get any outstanding money to Riefe ASAP
  • Community Dining Room - November 29th is a 5th Tuesday.  Need 6 cooks, 6 servers, and 2 for clean up.  Let Janie know

This year is the 100th anniversary of Rotary. President of Rotary International will be at celebration at the Omni New Haven in May.  Rotary International convention in Atlanta.

 

Last year $327,390 was raised by the foundation.  This year the goal is $400k.  Core intiatives are; Build Peace, Fight Disease, Provide Clean Water, Promote Education, Support Mothers & Children, and Grow Local Economes. 

 

For the 2015-2016 year the Guilford Club contributed 9,845, with a per capita of $129.54,  54 members donated (76%), 49 sustaining members ($100 or more, 69% of members). Two Paul Harris Society members give $1,000 or more.  

 

Rotary Foundation is one of only 3 organizations in the entire world that received 100 score from Charity Navigator

 

Recently held the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) for Interact Sophomores & Juniors.  They were given assignment to come up with a project to do something good.  12 teams with $800 total to give away.  Here are the top ideas.

- Honorable Mention - The Truth - assimilating Syrians into community so they aren't afraid

- 3rd Place ($100) - Breath of Fresh Air - children and community members bring another prespeccive.

- 2nd Place ($200) - Mental Illness Search Engine - This is an app that would be available at every guidance center.  Every student would take test and be provided with information on necessary support

- 1st Place - Heroin Awareness with Teens (HAT) - focus education and programs for help and support for teens.
